OUT NOW Sun & Rain - Waterfall (OOYH 032)
RELEASE DAY! We are so excited to release Sun & Rain - Waterfall (OOYH 032) out TODAY on LP + digital. We agreed to release this record after listening to maybe two minutes of Waterfall, and we hope you love the music as much as we do! Sun & Rain is Travis Laplante + Nathaniel Morgan - saxophones, Andrew Smiley - guitar, and Jason Nazary - drums, who are/were members of Little Women, Battle Trance, Emperyan Atlas, Helado Negro, Elder Ones, Anteloper, Secret People, Subtle Degrees, Extra Life, Horse Torso, Folklords, Buckminster, VaVatican, Erica Eso, and The Hero of Warchester.
The vinyl sounds awesome and in stock, shipping immediately! As always, the super album art/design is by TJ Huff...the full size back panel of this LP looks especially great (and you’ll just have to grab an LP to see it)! Another one that TJ knocked out of the park. And if you are in NYC the release show is January 14 Sisters in Brooklyn. Enjoy the music, much more soon!

Waterfall (OOYH 032) is the debut album by Sun & Rain (Travis Laplante, Nathaniel Morgan, Andrew Smiley, and Jason Nazary), a new fully collaborative quartet that thus far has practiced a painstaking process of co-composing music together. Because of this extreme sense of collaboration and only working on the music when all four members were physically together, the album Waterfall took six years to compose. Beginning in 2014 the band gathered at Laplante’s residence in Vermont for semi-annual rehearsal retreats. These were not particularly relaxing retreats, as the band held themselves to a rigorous work ethic, always working around the clock. Full days were spent obsessively working on two minutes of music which were then trashed the next day and never used. It was an extraordinarily patient and slow-moving compositional process. Waterfall is due out January 10, 2025 on Out Of Your Head Records in LP + digital formats.
In a time when it’s more challenging than ever to be in a band, Sun & Rain hopes to keep the torch burning for the internal rewards of spending hundreds of hours on a single piece of collaborative music. It’s not ultimately about the music compared to something else, it’s about the act of devotion that it is for four people giving of themselves to each other in service of a unified sound. This sound carries within it the love of the music and love between people who play it. This love extends to the people who listen, and to the Earth itself.
