OUT NOW Alfredo Colón - Blood Burden (OOYH 029)
Release day! We are so pumped to finally be releasing the debut album from Alfredo Colón, Blood Burden (OOYH 029)! Colón is a saxophonist we’ve been hearing about for years, from associations with Henry Threadgill and William Parker, as the latest addition to Amirtha Kidambi’s Elder Ones, and recently appearing on EWI on Christopher Hoffman - Vision Is The Identity (OOYH 026). Blood Burden features Colón with his quartet of Lex Korten, Steve Williams, and Connor Parks, navigating 8 tracks of modern jazz in the vein of Ambrose Akinmusire, Darius Jones, Henry Threadgill, David Binney, Kenny Garrett, and Miguel Zenón, but introduces Colón as a totally original new voice on the alto saxophone. Hear for yourself! Links to purchase (CD + Digital) on Bandcamp, as well as all streaming platforms.
Alfredo is also the featured artist on the cover of Tidal’s Jazz: Rising playlist this morning, with Our Armor from Blood Burden being the lead track. A big thanks to Brad Farberman for this! All of the art + layout + design for Blood Burden by TJ Huff, album cover photo by Stratøs and the Tidal playlist photo is by Gannon Padgett.
And if you happen to be in NYC the release show for Blood Burden is tonight at @thejazzgallery. Head to their website for ticket info. And another big thanks to @jimmacnie for the live music pick this week and the very kind words about the record.
“Colón is a player that leans into a situation – why let even a single measure go by if the spirit isn’t front and center? But he also has a lithe approach that makes his lines curvaceousness. Spent the last few weeks with his Blood Burden (Out Of Your Head), an album that wins you over pretty damn quick [...] I’m jotting down this one for debut of the year.” —Jim Macnie, Lament For A Straight Line
We hope you enjoy this music, thanks for listening!
